Taking Independent and Unofficial Back

Political Hodgepodge

Did you watch the Congressional Jan 6 Committee hearings, last Thursday evening? Are you going to watch the hearings this week? I wish all of them could be in the evening, as the first one was but, tomorrow (Monday), the Committee will be presenting their findings starting at 10am.

I guess I'll be catching the highlights. I'd love to hear your impressions though, so share, if you would.

Thanks! Well...obviously TFG is a bad dude with no regard for the truth. And hopefully there will be some solid receipts in the coming hearings, proving that he knew the Big Lie was, in fact, a lie.

I'm only a junior attorney (a facetious title hung on me by a real lawyer but we whipped his ass in the court room so ha ha ha) but if I was TFG, to avoid an indictment I'd say, "Hey - I know tons of the smartest people around me said I lost. But I also had counsel from people that said I won and it's not my fault if you think Rudy Giuliani is a drunk buffoon, or Mike Lindell is a crackhead, or Sidney Powell is a goofball McNugget. I believed them then and I still do, so you can't indict me for purposefully misleading people and/or improperly trying to overturn the election. I still say I won! So all you can do is call me stupid".

I do know the committee has said they have evidence TFG broke federal law. I can't wait to see that but IMHO it's going to have to be pretty serious stuff to get TFG in front of a grand jury.

I take it you’re not convinced by the argument he knew he lost.

He almost certainly knew he lost but if he sticks to the "I was robbed, the election was stolen!" position, he can argue that he didn't commit sedition or treason because he was told by people he trusted that the election was, in fact, stolen. Unless someone testifies that TFG told them, "Yeah, I know. I lost" then that strategy might work, but I don't really know for sure.

Robbing a bank is illegal and you can't go rob one and then say, "Hey - the people I trust more than anyone else in the world told me robbing a bank is OK, so I did it and you can't get me in trouble!" One of the government's favorite sayings is "the subject knew or should have known", which would certainly seem to apply to the 2020 election.

As luck would have it, I just read a nice article on Wonkette that addressed everything from my previous post. Here are the relevant parts:

There's a legal thing called "the doctine of conscious avoidance" which says you can't claim to believe something when there's no way you don't know it's false. Did the 1/6 committee show enough evidence to prove that there was absolutely no way TFG could have possibly believed anything other than he lost? That'll be for the Department of Justice to decide but when the guy who used to run the DOJ testifies he told TFG all the election fraud claims were false, it would seem to be hard for the DOJ to believe TFG's claims.

So the "Costanza defense" would fail for TFG just like it did for both Jerry Seinfeld and George Constanza. Here's a segment from Ari Melber that tidies it up pretty well:

I heard to day on the Radio, that Trump wants to run in 2024, please God Americans don't allow this.

2 terms of Dubya and 1 of Trump, how much more punishment do you need. Just find a Democrat under 60 and try and get them into the White House (Because even I understand Biden is well and truly past it and Kamala who? - I mean what has she actually done?).

How about this, straight out of Missouri:

Eric Greitens, a scandal-ridden Republican running for Senate in Missouri, released an ad on Monday advocating for “hunting” RINOs, or Republicans In Name Only, a term for conservatives who haven’t veered far enough to the right.

The ad is not subtle. It isn’t even metaphorical. It features Greitens and an armed military team breaking into a house to execute Republicans who don’t sufficiently support former President Trump. “Join the MAGA crew,” Greitens says. “Get a RINO-hunting permit. There’s no bagging limit, no tagging limit, and it doesn’t expire until we save our country.”

I'm just gonna say I dislike this guy rather intensely, I didn't like him when he was Governor with his sex scandal and then he quit. Now he' running for the Senate.
FB & Twitter has banned this video.
Things are really getting out of hand.
The thing that scares me is Missouri is dumb enough to vote the asshole back in.

I'm very much looking forward to the day when these goons recede back into the woodwork and coalesce into some knotty lump that no one wants to know anything about.

It seems to be true that horrifying people through no- holds -barred outrageousness is the objective. Absolutely anything goes.

And, part of the appeal of fascistic-leaning strongmen is the ability to commit criminal acts with impunity. Since that’s the direction the gop leans, g———— is just establishing cred as he courts t——-‘s approval.

Some more perspective:

Best campaign video for Democrats in AGES. If Greitens wins the GOP nomination, he's probably handing the seat over to the Democrats.

Missouri is mainly Repubs especially in the mid and southern parts, because that's the Bible belt. KC and St. Louis usually lean more to the Dems.
Missouri is so screwed.

I can't remember if I mentioned this before but I went to college with that lawyer dude who pulled guns with his wife on the crowd that walked in front of his home. He was a punk in college and apparently hasn't changed one bit.

And then they asked for pardons: Reps. Mo Brooks of Alabama, Matt Gaetz of Florida, Andy Biggs of Arizona, Louie Gohmert of Texas, Scott Perry of Pennsylvania and Marjorie Taylor Greene of Georgia. Gaetz apparently asked for a blanket pardon starting back in December (think that had to do with his legal troubles and the allegations that he trafficked underage girls to have sex with them?).

AND GREITENS IS OUT!!
As is Hartzler!!!!!
Trudy Busch Valentine is the Dem nod for Senate. She is part of the Busch family who owns Anheuser Busch!!
Eric Schmitt for the Repubs, and he may be really hard to beat.

Kansans protected women's rights!!
