Purple and Black
Taking Independent and Unofficial Back

The 2021 Purple and Black Fitness Thread!

Well, it's 16 degrees with a feels-like temperature of 1 degree. There's no way I could heat the garage with my space heaters! Plus, we've having rolling electrical black-outs AND outright power losses so I'm hesitant to do anything that might contribute to an overuse of electricity.

Looks like Friday might be the next day it'll be OK to heat up the garage. That means seven days between workouts. Yuck! Push-ups, here I come!

Knee isnt good, its one i broke a few years back after a big off on the bike- had to not run for a week- this is hell

That's true, you can work out everything really quickly if you do push-ups. I can do 50 push-ups in one minute, and that's a lot. If you can hit 25 push-ups in a minute, I'd say you're doing better than 99% of the people out there.

One thing that really helps me with push-ups is that I think of them in groups. In my case, it's groups of 10 but it could be groups of 5, too. When I'm doing a set, instead of thinking, "Oh, that's 10 push-ups, 40 more to go?!?" I think "OK, that was 10, and I know I can do 10 more no matter what, so here we go". I use that trick for every group of 10 and before I know it, I've hit that magical 50 number.
That is EXACTLY the way to do it, i break long runs in to chunks, 5k or 10 k sections. "Another 10k- easy" get that done and move on, shows how totally mental all of this is. Doesn't matter if the goal is 100 pressups or 100 miles, doable chunks is the way to go

Go on and get it! But hey - there's not a kid on Earth that couldn't get most of us grown-ups out of breath in a matter of minutes. Or in my case, a matter of seconds LOL.
It was seconds for me too though. I had to call my sister as a back up, it was that bad

Got 6.5 in today and my knee feels good, hoping it hold out tonight and i can run again this week. I feel so lost without my morning run.

I was an avid runner,I miss it. I loved hills and using nature as the gym, hiking, biking swimming etc. My bodys starting to do what it wants to do as of a couple of yrs now and im chasing a certain amount of getting back what the bods takin away. This yrs gonna be a lot of doc visits n pt therapy n prob surgs n stuff. I love cortisone shots gotta say n all that shit you go thru when things happen. I walk n do excersizes I can do to stay in a certain amount of shape. I sold my home gym bench n weights my son wont do em n they took up space errr. Great job to those bustin it out for their health and being an inspiration. One thing I appreciate about social media is all the fitness n health concious advice since theirs tons to help me get in shape wand healthier diet recipes.

I'm either lazy or rushed,... could you tell me how/where to sign up?? I went to the site and it wasn't obvious to me. Thanks.

Thanks for saying this. I honestly hadn't read Mdivers post properly. Yes, Mdiver, tell us how to get signed up. I'm running again at the min (not great distances) - if it's just logging the runs, I'll gladly help.

So... I've managed to be a regular at the gym for the past 2 months.

💪

I have lost a tiny bit of size around the waist, but I need to be better with my diet.

Also - I can't seem to catch my breath lately. I hope that COVID didn't damage my lungs (even though I never had a cough or chest congestion).

Hopefully by summertime I can once again be shirtless.

Well done for going to the gym regularly. Keep going and I'm sure you'll hit your goals.

The gyms are still shut over here until April12th. I can't wait until they open. I've really struggled to get the motivation to exercise without the support from my gym, but the past few weeks I have been running regularly - not enjoying as such yet. Doing around 5k 4-5 times a week.

Hoping your lungs strengthen soon too. Might be worth doing some deep breathing exercises (from YouTube). I do have a friend who is still struggling with her lungs post-Covid and she's walking up a steep hill once every other day to try and strengthen them. Not sure if that's advice she's been given, or whether she's taken it upon herself to do.

Been skiing every day, haven't hit the weights in a couple weeks. Might not hit them for a couple more weeks either because I had a gnarly wreck and severely sprained my right thumb. I hurt NOTHING else - just the dadgum thumb! Still can ski though, and still can play the guitar.

Remember that squat platform I made? I did LOTS of SQUATS in preparation for the possiblity of skiing and guess what? They worked!

I've skied every one of my usual runs, all the way down to the bottom every time, never stopping to rest, and never ever getting sore thighs. I never thought I'd say this but squats rule!

These burn like hell! We used to have to do it with two people at the gym passing a ball back and forth between ourselves for 1 min. 15 sec break, then a second min. I used to dread them!
